On the back of increased client demand for physical effects capabilities, leading film and TV visual effects company Cinesite has launched Cinesite Production Services. The new division, based at Shepperton Studios in Middlesex, expands the company’s award-winning miniature construction and photography services by adding effects element creation and photography, water-based photography, equipment hire and prop-making skills. These neatly complement the company’s world-renowned 2D and 3D CGI effects services.
Prism Sounds range of test and measurement equipment is now being represented in Sweden by MixRommet, a subsidiary of Oslo-based distributor LydRommet, which already handles Prism Sounds range in Norway.
Established in 2007, Stockholm-based MixRommet shares service, support and administration facilities with LydRommet. The company is headed by Gunnar Silins, who spent more than 20 years as a sound engineer, maintenance engineer and recording studio manager before moving into pro audio sales. Cooke Optics Ltd., the premier manufacturer of precision lenses for the motion picture industry, today announced that it is working with The Foundry to incorporate /i Technology into Nuke, the powerful compositing application. /i Intelligent Technology enables the recording of extremely accurate, frame-by-frame lens and camera data, saving visual effects artists hours of time in post production by eliminating the need to guess lens parameters and camera information.
Cooke Optics Ltd., the premier manufacturer of precision lenses for the motion picture industry, announced today that the Panchro by Cooke series of Prime lenses are compatible with the new RED Epic S35 camera format, with an image circle of 33.54mm.
Panchro lenses are among the only professional lenses designed exclusively for motion picture capture that cover the new RED Epic S35 format. The RED Epic S35 is configured for lightweight 5K cine application, making the reduced size Panchro an ideal accompanying lens. All Panchro lenses will be equipped with /i Technology, which is also supported by RED; thus post production teams and visual effects artists working on footage from the RED EPIC S35 will save hours of time by eliminating the need to guess lens parameters and camera information.
BBC Cambridge, a regional studio of the world-renowned broadcaster, has recently taken delivery of a Shotoku Broadcast 3-channel robotically controlled camera system. James Eddershaw, sales director for the camera support manufacturer made the announcement from Shotoku’s European headquarters located in Staines, UK.
System Integrators, Dega Broadcast Systems, were responsible for the technical design, installation and commissioning of the TV facilities. Shotoku worked closely with Dega on the specification and configuration of the camera robotics.
David Addey from Dega commented, “The equipment was easy to understand and install and was very efficiently commissioned on site by Shotoku, who also provided training for the operators.”
Shotoku systems can also be found at other BBC locations including London, Glasgow and Cardiff.
The system is comprised of two TG-18 and one TG-27 pan/tilt heads for exceptionally smooth and accurate performance at all speeds and shooting angles. Control is achieved by an external interface for production automation, and Shotoku’s TR-8T touch control panel. The configuration will support the daily production schedule of regional news and current affairs programs.
Shepperton-based Camera Corps, a global leader in robotic camera control systems, has chosen the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas for the worldwide launch of its new ultra-compact Mini Joystick Control. Mini Joystick Control is compatible with all Camera Corps and Egripment pan and tilt heads, including the award-winning Camera Corps Q-Ball.
"Mini Joystick Control was developed for applications such as commentator-camera control or for outside-broadcast vehicles where desk space is often very restricted," comments Camera Corps' founder and Managing Director Laurie Frost. "It is extremely easy to use and ideal for fast-response on-air operation. The joystick and control buttons have the same tactile responsiveness as those on our full-size controller, including fully adjustable pan, tilt and zoom speeds and reverses. Zoom is controlled by rotary twist of the joystick. Up to five separate heads can be operated from a single panel. Reverse settings and control speeds for each of the five channels can be stored in non-volatile internal memory."
The new Hague Twin Shoulder Support is an alternative support to a tripod when steady shots are required. It may not always be convenient to use a tripod, as there may not be enough time to set one up or you may be constantly moving to a new position. This is when the Twin Shoulder Support is essential. It's ideal for weddings, interviews, corporate work, etc.
Camera Corps Q-Ball robotic camera heads are keeping watchful eyes on the latest series of 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here' from Springbrook National Park on Australia's tropical Gold Coast. A total of six Q-Balls were chosen by international broadcast services company Gearhouse Broadcast as part of an 80-camera flyaway production system for the programme's ninth series. Produced by ITV Studios, the programmes are being transmitted in Britain by Granada Television (weekdays) and LWT (weekends) and on TV3 in Ireland. Over 40 hours of live programming are being sourced from 24/7 content captured over several weeks of production.
Shotoku Broadcast Systems has announced a new installation at the principal facilities of TV Azteca in Mxico City. The prolific television network annually generates more than 10,000 hours of unique content for viewers throughout the Spanish speaking world.
After evaluating a range of competing products, TV Azteca (www.tvazteca.com.mx) selected the Shotoku TP-64 VR Pedestal for studio production, and a companion tripod for portable field use, both fitted with virtual studio-enabled TU-03AVR pan/tilt heads. The Shotoku systems' precision encoders will provide TV Azteca's graphics generation computers, using Vizrt software, with fast and accurate camera positioning data.
"Compatibility with our virtual studio technology was the main factor," said Romn Gmez, director of engineering at TV Azteca. "And because we are very active in studio production, Shotoku's reputation for reliability, cost-effective maintenance and user-friendly configuration made the decision easy," Gmez concluded.
"We are delighted to add TV Azteca to the growing list of Shotoku users within the creative broadcast production community," said Naoki Ebimoto, president of Shotoku US. "Our pan/tilt heads and whisper quiet pedestals are optimized for virtual reality; their highly accurate 2D/3D positioning sensors enhance the perceived reality of computer generated studio environments."
