Digital Solutions Adds BVE02-PV for Single-Operator News Studios

In these days of tightened budgets and reduced resources, Broadcasters are forced to look for ways to trim costs. For those Broadcasters operating News Studios, the BVE02-PV offers an elegant and simple solution for reducing two pairs of hands to one.
 
The BVE02-PV adds two essential features to standard ESAM control for Yamaha 02R96, DM1000 and DM2000 mixers; audio preview of next-up sources and multiple concurrent sources on the program bus, when connected to an appropriately enabled vision switcher such as the Snell Kahuna.
There is an option for adding a compact fader control unit that can be installed immediately adjacent to the vision switcher allowing both audio and video to be effectively managed from the one operator’s position. This facility makes the BVE02-PV ideal for single-operator galleries where one person can be in charge of both vision and audio mixing.
 
Audio preview presents the faders for the next-up source on the remote panel and dedicated faders of the mixer, where the levels can be adjusted while that source is heard through the monitoring system. These adjusted levels are automatically applied to the source’s faders when they are opened to the program bus.

New Quantel release supports Silicon Imaging SI-2K camera

Quantel has announced that its V4.1 Rev7 software for Pablo, iQ and eQ - released today - includes native support for the CineForm RAW files produced by the Silicon Imaging SI-2K camera. This development opens up the power of the Quantel workflow to projects shot on the SI-2K camera, as used on 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
 
"Our customers are working on an ever-increasing number of projects that have been digitally captured," said Quantel Director of Marketing, Steve Owen. "More and more of those customers have asked us to help them build an efficient post-production pipeline for SI-2K shot material. Our new development includes CineForm compression and its Active Metadata(tm) workflow, making it fast and easy to work on SI shot projects."

Soho, London post boutique The Look has just completed the picture post production on the second series of the BBCs flagship five part drama Criminal Justice. The BAFTA winning series is airing in the prime 9pm slot on BBC1 every night from the 5th to 9th October. All the work was carried out on The Looks Quantel eQ finishing system with Thomas Urbye as Colourist, combined with its Genetic Engineering shared workflow infrastructure.

Orad signs a virtual studio OEM deal

Orad Hi-Tec Systems Ltd, a global developer, marketer and distributor of state-of-the-art, 3D real-time graphic solutions for the broadcasting markets, announced today that it completed the implementation of an OEM virtual studios deal for the entry level market in China. The deal valued is at USD1.2 million. The order is from Orads Chinese partner China’s Pacific Media Technologies (PMT), who will be reselling the solutions to local and provincial Chinese broadcasters.
 
Orad’s virtual studios were chosen because of their technological superiority over all the other virtual studios in the international market and their seamless adaptability to the Chinese production workflow. Orad’s virtual studios will provide substantial economic benefits and an excellent return on investment by increasing sponsorship capabilities and by enabling many different types of shows, including sports, news, and entertainment, to be produced easily from the same studio.
 
Mr. Avi Sharir, CEO and President of Orad commented: “Orad has already established itself as the leader in high end virtual studios in the Asian market, with sales to Shanghai Media Group, CCTV China, Phoenix TV Hong Kong, and more recently ESPN Star Sports. Vizrts Viz Engine 3.3 once again powered graphics within a one-operator system developed by Berlin-based netventure for the HD production of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2009. The Red Bull XFighter series is one of the largest freestyle motocross contests. This years series made five stops around the globe, beginning in Mexico, moving on to Canada and the US and ending in London. All of the Red Bull X-Fighter series broadcasts were produced in HD and seen live on the ESPN Network in the U.S. The tour began in late March and concluded on August 22 in London.
