Streambox Partners With Vizada

Streambox today announced that it has formed a partnership with Vizada, the leading independent provider of mobile satellite communications services, to extend the Streambox® Live™ IP-based video contribution service to the Vizada network of more than 400 service providers and their customers. By downloading the Streambox Live encoding software free of charge to their laptops, field news crews and other organizations using Vizada services can now transmit live or file-based video via mobile satellite terminals such as Inmarsat BGAN, FleetBroadband, or Thuraya IP.

Hiltron HMAM satellite antenna mount to make Middle East debut

Hiltron Communications has chosen CABSAT MENA 2010 (Dubai, March 2-4) as the venue for the introduction of the HMAM motorised satellite antenna mount to Middle East broadcasters and satcom service-providers.

"Shown in prototype at IBC2009 and now in production, the Hiltron HMAM is a complete high-precision rotatable satellite antenna mount at a very accessible price," comments Hiltron GmbH Managing Director Michael Schiestl. "Designed for two-way VSAT communication or receive-only downlink applications, it has a combined head and drive forming a three-axis motorised system with 180 degrees of azimuth adjustment, 90 degrees of elevation adjustment range and fully adjustable polarisation. The HMAM is fully compatible with our standard HACU antenna positioning system. It includes professional-grade drives for azimuth and elevation plus a high-accuracy polarisation drive."

Hiltron completes VSAT contract for TDA, Algeria

Hiltron Communications, one of Europe's leading providers of satellite and microwave communication equipment and systems, reports the successful completion of a major project for Algeria's state broadcaster,Tldiffusion d'Algrie (TDA).

"This contract forms a key element of TDA's transition to digital satellite transmission," explains Michael Schiestl, Managing Director of Hiltron Communications. "It includes the design, installation and implementation of a VSAT network with a 2.4 metre two-way antenna at numerous sites plus corresponding equipment at the Bouchaoui teleport near the capital city of Algiers. In addition to the antennas, we have supplied 4 W block upconverters, satellite modems and encoders/decoders including power supply units, RF accessories and signal monitors. Overall system control is based on the Hiltron HCS3 platform in conjunction with Visionic network management system. Algeria is a huge country, the second largest in Africa, so linking the various sites by satellite was by far the most practical and economical solution."

IDX SHIPS DUAL HOT-SWAP BATTERY PLATE

IDX Technology is now shipping the A-E241E, a new dual V-Mount plate which can support two attached IDX V-mount batteries to double the battery capacity and runtime available for cameras and on-board accessories.  The new plate has a universal V-Mount for secure connection to a wide variety of professional broadcast cameras and equipment and is compatible with all IDX ENDURA System Lithium Ion batteries.  A-E241E users have the advantage of being able to "hot-swap" batteries as they become low on capacity, replacing them with fully charged models without turning the camera off.  The lower battery channel supports IDX's Digi-View feature which shows remaining battery capacity data in percentage steps via the viewfinder.  
 
The A-E241E is primarily designed to provide longer lasting battery power for high powered ENG and cinematic cameras.  It is especially suited for use with the 136Wh ENDURA ELITE battery which can output 272Wh of runtime.  For those who frequently travel with camera and battery equipment by air, the ELITE eliminates concerns over air transportation with dual power cartridges that can be easily disengaged for travel and are fully compliant with domestic and internal IATA regulations.

Vinten Radamec, a Vitec Group brand, has supplied a Quattro SE pedestal with a Vision 250E head to Enfys Studios in Cardiff. The Quattro SE and 250E combination is specifically designed for work in conjunction with virtual environments, feeding high precision camera positioning detail to the graphics system to enable moves to be perfectly synchronised.
 
The new system was first used for Yn Yr Ardd (In the Garden), a pre-school series produced in HD by Flic Films for S4C. “The programmes create a magical world with an actor interacting freely with a number of animal puppets, all in a virtual world,” explained producer Sioned Eleri. “Our puppeteers are dressed in suits of Reflecmedia material, like the background, so we can key them out with the virtual environment. The freedom of movement we get from the new pedestal means we can make the action much more natural.”

Harry Potter director honoured by National Film and Television School

On Friday 26 February the National Film and Television School will present Harry Potter film director David Yates with an Honorary Fellowship at its annual graduation ceremony.
The NFTS Fellowship is awarded in recognition of outstanding contribution to the British film and television industry and previous recipients include Lord Attenborough CBE, David Lean CBE, Nick Park CBE and Alan Parker CBE. 
 
David Yates, a graduate of the NFTS, is a multi-BAFTA winning director who began his career in television. After leaving the NFTS, he directed high profile dramas including The Sins, The Way We Live Now and the political thriller State of Play, for which he earned a Directors Guild of Great Britain Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement. Further awards for Sex Traffic and The Girl in the Caf followed before David was offered his highest profile project to date with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The fifth film in the series was a critical and box office success, becoming the 8th best selling film ever worldwide. Yates is currently working on the final two films in the Harry Potter series, having also directed Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which broke box office records on its release.
 
On being awarded an honorary fellowship, Yates stated: ‘I am really proud to be given an NFTS fellowship and to join the impressive group of filmmakers who already hold the honour. The NFTS gave me my first big break by letting me through its doors for which I will always be grateful – and to return home and be acknowledged for the work I’ve done since graduating is a real treat. Thank you.
Nik Powell, Director of the NFTS stated: ‘We are really pleased to have the opportunity to honour one of our most successful graduates at today’s Graduation Ceremony. It is a poignant and inspiring moment to have one of our own alumni cheer on the next generation of behind-the-camera talent, even if in typical film fashion, David could only be here on screen due to his current Harry Potter commitments’.

ERTT ADOPTS FOR-A VIRTUAL STUDIO

FOR-A UK has supplied its digiStorm virtual studio technology and multiviewers to Thomson for installation at the Tunisian national broadcaster, ERTT in Tunis. As a part of a turnkey project by Thomson Grass Valley France SA, the virtual studio has been integrated with a Thomson vision mixer and Shotoku camera position sensors.
 
This digiStorm virtual studio system was configured to meet ERTT’s requirements that included working with the studio’s four cameras, and their associated motion sensors, using a dual-channel virtual set processor and two workstations to provide both programme and preview video of the virtual set for any two of the four cameras at one time. The two workstations run Brainstorm Multimedia’s eStudio 3D Graphics software, making a full ‘eStudio': one creation-and-play workstation and one play-only station. Other major system elements supplied by FOR-A that complete the system comprise a VRP-70HS virtual studio processor complete with chroma keyer, a DSC-100 data router and a tally interface.
