Wohler Unveils Versatile New CD-1 Caption Video Monitor Adaptor

Posted: 18/03/2010
Wohler Technologies Inc. today unveiled its new CD-1 caption and subtitle video monitor adaptor. The innovative CD-1 decodes and renders captions or subtitles for any digital video monitor to display, as well as de-embedding audio, conveniently allowing the operator to confirm the presence and accuracy of critical video, audio, and caption data using existing or low-cost monitors that lack caption display capability.

"As a compact and exceptionally simple solution for handling caption inputs and outputs, the CD-1 brings unique versatility to monitoring of the SDI stream across a broadcast plant or production facility," said Kim Templeman-Holmes, vice president of global sales and marketing at Wohler. "The CD-1 is a clever box that not only allows users to pull apart a 3G, HD-SDI, or SD-SDI signal quickly and easily, but also lets the user pick any stereo audio pair from the SDI stream for listening and cross-reference. It also acts as a splitter, providing flexible output of the SDI signal depending on the requirements of the application and preferences of the user."

Streambox Partners With Vizada

Posted: 18/03/2010
Streambox today announced that it has formed a partnership with Vizada, the leading independent provider of mobile satellite communications services, to extend the Streambox® Live™ IP-based video contribution service to the Vizada network of more than 400 service providers and their customers. By downloading the Streambox Live encoding software free of charge to their laptops, field news crews and other organizations using Vizada services can now transmit live or file-based video via mobile satellite terminals such as Inmarsat BGAN, FleetBroadband, or Thuraya IP.

"Increasingly, many different types of organizations need the ability to capture and send video from remote locations that can't be reached by mobile satellite vehicles, or areas lacking in infrastructure or high-bandwidth networking services. A few examples might be news crews covering breaking news from disaster areas, emergency response crews needing to enhance their communications capabilities, or military command and control units," said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. "Through our new partnership with Vizada, Streambox Live is the first application of its kind to give satellite customers a low-cost and highly flexible means of transmitting high-quality video from any point on the globe, using wireless devices such as laptops and mobile phones."

RTW HELPS CANADIAN BROADCASTER KEEP ITS AUDIO LEVELS IN CHECK

Posted: 25/02/2010
RTW, a leading manufacturer and distributor of professional audio metering and control devices, is proud to announce that Sonotechnique, a longtime RTW dealer in Canada, sold eight SurroundMonitor 10809X-PLUS and one SurroundControl 31900 systems to a major Canadian broadcaster. The equipment is being used to broadcast the 2010 Winter Games in Canada, which are being held February 12 – 28.

The RTW equipment was first built and tested in Toronto, then dismantled and shipped last month to the television station in Vancouver. The eight SurroundMonitor 10809X-PLUS systems were installed in the facility’s eight post-production suites and are scheduled for use on post-production work. The 31900 was installed in the facility’s quality control, which is serving as the final stop for audio mixing before the athletic coverage is broadcast out to viewers. Sonotechnique’s technical team in Vancouver is providing technical support to the station.

Pedestals in a virtual world

Posted: 29/01/2010
Three Quattro SE pedestals with Vision 250E heads from Vinten Radamec, a Vitec Group brand , are being used by BBC Studios and Post Production for a new children’s show which combines live action and virtual reality. In Bamzooki Street Rules four teams of children design their own “zooks” – 3D computer-generated creatures – which compete with each other in a range of challenges. The zooks and their games are generated in real time, and the production design immerses the teams in what appears to be four floors of an industrial building. The series, for CBBC and BBC One, is produced in a four-wall studio at Pinewood.
