FOR-A Presents Prism SYSTEM At NAB 2010 |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
FOR-A will introduce Prism System — on-the-fly, multiple-output video clipping software — at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nev., April 12-15 (Booth C5219). With its built-in encoder, clipping, and trans-coding tools, Prism provides a complete video content repurposing solution for Web and mobile TV distribution.
“These days, broadcasters are producing video content for more than just over-the-air television transmission. They need to repurpose their content assets for distribution on the Web and beyond. Prism will allow broadcasters to increase their station content revenues, while keeping the production costs low,” said Hiro Tanoue, president, FOR-A Corporation of America. “Our revolutionary Prism System software processes on the fly while recording video. It’s an incredibly easy way to prep footage for distribution via multiple outlets.” Click to view Full text |

CBS Sports Uses FOR-A FRC-7000 FRAME RATE CONVERTERS |
Posted: 19/11/2009 |
|
Through the cooperation of CBS Sports and London-based CTV Outside Broadcasts, the Oct. 25 off-shore matchup between the National Football League’s New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was broadcast from London’s Wembley Stadium. A key piece of equipment, the FOR-A FRC-7000 HD frame rate converter, was supplied by London-based rental company Galaxy Light & Power LLC.
From football to ice hockey, the challenge in broadcasting sports is that there are a lot of objects moving quickly in different directions at the same time. “The FOR-A FRC-7000 handles fast moving objects far better than other converters I have used,” said Andy Grant, Chief Executive and Senior Engineer at Galaxy Light & Power. “You have more control over it in terms of optimizing settings for each kind of material. We found settings that will give a virtually transparent conversion for American football.”
Galaxy Light & Power worked independently with the NFL to provide an additional converter for instant replay feeds, and the outside broadcast facilities provider, CTV, wanted two additional converters to provide local news feeds within the United States and backup feeds. There were a total of five frame rate converters on site, all of them Galaxy’s FOR-A FRC-7000s.
According to Grant, the technical team at CBS was very pleased with the high quality of the conversion. “FOR-A converters are their first choice for this kind of work,” he said. “This is the second year we’ve done it. CBS was impressed with the work we did last year, hence we’ve been asked to do it this year. I like working with the FOR-A FRC-7000 because it is reliable and produces a consistently high quality conversion.”

Mobile Phones Capture Road Conditions |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
When recent heavy snowstorms affected citizens in WDIV-TV's metropolitan Detroit viewing area, the Streambox® Live™ IP-based video contribution service and the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband network provided a novel newsgathering solution: snowplow-cams. The NBC affiliate supplemented its live news and weather coverage with video of road conditions streamed from smartphones mounted on the dashboards of county snowplow trucks. The video was rebroadcast by major news organizations including CNN Headline News, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel® to enhance their national weather coverage.
"Major weather events can have a dire impact on citizens' ability to move about safely, and news organizations have a responsibility to ensure that viewers are armed with the most current and accurate information possible. The streaming system worked well for us to bring in many live videos from all over metropolitan Detroit for WDIV-TV, and the snowplow operation is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak," said Jeff Liebman, news operations manager at WDIV-TV. "When paired with the reliability, robust 3G network speeds, and signal clarity afforded by the mobile broadband network, this application afforded us an extremely cost-effective and scalable method for giving viewers a firsthand look at road conditions as they happened." PLAYBOX HITS RECORD SALES |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
PlayBox Technology, the #1 international ‘TV station in a box’ manufacturer, reports record sales in 2009. Further growth is planned for 2010, assisted by developments in both technology and the expansion of worldwide regional operations.
Provisional figures for 2009 show 28 percent consolidated volume growth over 2008, itself a record in a recession year following on from successive growth years. The 2009 results were boosted by the company’s development of regional markets as well as its continued technical product development. The new PlayBox product lines in the Digital Signage and AV markets also added to the numbers.
As a part of the planned growth for 2010, PlayBox will open two further regional offices during the year serving Southern Europe and the expanding South American market. PlayBox CEO, Vassil Lefterov, comments, “This recession has made our customers look even more closely at value for money, and we have been delivering it. We have had a fantastic year and are now building on our strengths to do more. A lot of our business is about developing ideas with customers and delivering what they want. The new regional offices allow us to do this on a wider scale. We are also looking for additional ways to accelerate our expansion.”

Film Master Supports Oscar Winning Documentary |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
Oscar winning documentary The Cove follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and free divers in a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Japan, where they uncover a horrifying microcosm of devastating ecological crimes; a massive slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises every year and the subsequent sale of their mercury tainted meat. The unforgettable story of The Cove, directed by renowned photographer Louie Psihoyos and produced by Paula DuPr Pesmen and Fisher Stevens, is inspiring audiences worldwide to take action. The film puts viewers in the water and in the drama with the filmmakers with breathtaking impact.
The Cove is the first nomination and win for Louie Psihoyos. It was edited by award-winning editor Geoffrey Richman.
Utilising state-of-the-art techniques, ingeniously camouflaged and planted equipment, the production purchased Sony PDW-F350L, HDR-SR1 cameras, thermal imaging, and night-vision cameras. Some of the footage was also shot from unmanned aerial drones and a blimp equipped with a remote-controlled camera. Sony HVR-A1U HDV cameras were used where the filmmakers had to stay lightweight, as well as Sony HVR-Z1U for the covert underwater filming. Click to view Full text |

dScope for R and D and production line testing |
Posted: 15/03/2010 |
|
Lewes-based Application Solutions (Safety and Security) Limited, a specialist in developing Public Address and Voice Alarm Systems for the rail and airport industries, is utilising four dScope Series III audio analyzers from Prism Sound for the R&D and production line testing of its PA/VA range of products.
“For me what sets the instrument apart is how simply the automated tests can be created and scaled up to multichannel testing by the use of dScope Switchers,” comments the company’s Production Engineer Terry Donoghue. “Also, we use dScope Series III script serial port functions for programming on-board devices. We've found that many programs have a command line interface that can be driven directly by dScope. This means we can often avoid a separate programming operation during production.” Click to view Full text |
