dScope for R and D and production line testing

Posted: 15/03/2010
Lewes-based Application Solutions (Safety and Security) Limited, a specialist in developing Public Address and Voice Alarm Systems for the rail and airport industries, is utilising four dScope Series III audio analyzers from Prism Sound for the R&D and production line testing of its PA/VA range of products.

“For me what sets the instrument apart is how simply the automated tests can be created and scaled up to multichannel testing by the use of dScope Switchers,” comments the company’s Production Engineer Terry Donoghue. “Also, we use dScope Series III script serial port functions for programming on-board devices. We've found that many programs have a command line interface that can be driven directly by dScope. This means we can often avoid a separate programming operation during production.

50% expect to work in 3D next year

Posted: 25/02/2010
According to a poll carried out among visitors at the BVE exhibition by test and measurement specialist, Hamlet - 50% of people expect to work in a stereoscopic 3D production in the coming year. A further 14% had already worked in 3D. And almost two-thirds of visitors said that finding out about 3D equipment and production techniques was the main reason or an important part of their visit.
Conference sessions and product demonstrations at the event, held at London’s Earls Court, reflected the rapidly growing interest in 3D, both for cinema and now for broadcast. The convention immediately followed the first broadcasts from Sky’s new 3D channel.

PHABRIX at BVE

Posted: 29/01/2010
PHABRIX's latest product on show at BVE is the PHABRIX SxD dual link, a multi-format combined generator, analyser and monitor designed for post production, studio, camera and projector testing and measurement at SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI.
The PHABRIX SxD actually supports over 350 different combinations of formats including the new SMPTE 372M allowing testing for bit-rates of 2.970 Gbit/s, and 2.970/1.001 Gbit/s over two wires able to carry 1080p video. The PHABRIX SxD also offers different colour spaces required for testing including 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB, and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit. Broadcast manufacturers will find the new support for 3G particularly valuable as the debate increases as whether to use 3G level A or B in studio infrastructure.

DTG TEST SUITES FOR UK AND NZ FREEVIEW PRE-TESTING

Posted: 19/03/2010
Digital TV Labs, which provides independent, specialised conformance products and services for DVB-based markets, has become the first test facility to receive a licence to offer the full Digital TV Group (DTG) Test Suite, providing manufacturers with a cost-effective pre-DTG test and debugging process.

Digital TV Labs is now in the unique position of being able to offer the full terrestrial test suite for UK and NZ markets for pre-testing from its offices in the UK and Hong Kong. The UK digital television industry established DTG Testing Ltd. in 2000 to carry out interoperability testing on digital television receivers, initially for the UK’s DTT market (Freeview) and later for the UK’s Freesat service, international platforms and most recently for the Freeview HD service in the UK.
