British cameraman Mark Moreve shot the entire 90-minute feature film ‘Love Loss’ with the compact Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera and the fluid head Video 18 SB from Sachtler, a brand of the Vitec Group.
“Even when using a small camera, reliable and robust equipment is essential,” Mark Moreve states. “I knew straight away that I needed good camera support equipment for this shoot. The camera is very lightweight and I often have to use longer lenses such as a 400mm, so I needed a stable Sachtler tripod to prevent any jittering during the shoot. Even if you use a lighter lens and a camera not as heavy, you have to make sure that the camera can be panned and tilted without a problem in order to achieve smooth panning shots,” says Mark Moreve who has been working as a freelance cameraman for 14 years with many broadcast and corporate credits to his name. Clear-Com® Communication Systems, a Vitec Group brand, today announces the launch of an enhanced version of the company’s Clear-Com Concert™ intercom software, which now offers new external audio interfacing capabilities. With this new connectivity option, Concert can easily interface with external audio systems, including partyline systems, paging systems, program feeds and other matrix systems using a four-wire interface over a standard IP network, providing a seamless communications network. Clear-Com will exhibit the enhanced Concert for the first time at NAB 2010 (Booth C6025).
In most television productions, communications among key production crew members typically take place over closed-circuit two-wire and/or four-wire intercom systems, restricting other users from joining the intercom loop. Concert, a cost-effective and flexible Intercom-over-IP solution, allows authorized users with Internet access to easily communicate with other crew members using hard-wired panels and wireless beltpacks on the partyline and/or matrix intercom circuit who are using hard-wired panels and wireless beltpacks. In addition, Concert can now accept and send audio through a facility’s public announcement system, program feed, and other 4-wire audio devices via most commercially available audio interface boxes.
“Unlike many IP intercom products that just transmit audio over an IP link, Concert has truly defined Intercom-over-IP with its ability to seamlessly integrate with traditional intercom systems and external audio interfaces over standard IP networks,” says Patrick Menard, Product Manager of Concert at Clear-Com. “With the revolutionary I.V.Core technology at its core, Concert is inherently dynamic and scalable to manage communication connections of any size or quantity without sacrificing audio quality.”

NewsCam picks Riedel Artist Intercom for SNG van |

The Swiss SNG provider NewsCam expanded its four camera HD SNG vehicle with a Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom. Riedel Communications, one of the leading manufacturers of intercom, fiber, audio and radio technology, delivered an Artist 32 system. Tele Comm Sportservice, Riedel's partner in Switzerland, was responsible for implementing the project.
At the heart of the HD SNG vehicle is an Artist 32 digital matrix intercom mainframe. Artist 32 is a powerful and cost-effective digital intercom matrix/stage management system, which is designed for the requirements of stand-alone broadcast applications, opera houses and theatres as well as sports and cultural events. The system is based on a modular concept and can be adapted to the users' individual requirements. Hot swappable client cards, plus redundant CPUs and power supplies offer maximum reliability. Artist 32 provides up to 32x32 ports and is easily expandable with any other Artist mainframe building matrices with up to 1,024x1,024 non-blocking ports. Artist 1000 series control panels are used in the NewsCam HD SNG truck.

Largest multifunction hall with TELEX/RTS intercom system |

With the opening of the Crocus City Hall, Moscow now boasts the largest multifunction hall in Russia. Opened at the end of last year and seating over 6,200 with excellent acoustics, the new hall not only offers an attractive venue for national and international stars but also – thanks to the flexibility of its design – a wealth of other possibilities: the 4,500-square-metre hall is capable, for example, of serving as a venue not only for conferences and AGMs but also for theatrical productions and television shows.
To provide easy and reliable communications for such a diverse range of events, the Russian service provider Theater Technics and Technology (TTT) installed in the new hall a lavish intercom system from TELEX/RTS. The centrepiece of the installation is a Cronus digital matrix. By itself in the standard configuration, the Cronus makes 32 ports available, but by combining four such units, as here, it is possible to obtain a 128-port matrix. Morocco turns to Riedel |

The Moroccan public broadcast network 2M has installed a comprehensive Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom installation to replace its former system. The new system from the German manufacturer of intercom, fiber and radio technology integrates 16 regional 2M broadcast studios via IP into the communications infrastructure.
At the heart of the installation are two Riedel Artist 128 mainframes connected via a redundant dual fiber ring offering up to 1,024x1,024 non-blocking ports. The frames are equipped with redundant power supplies, AIO connections and VoIP client cards.
A total of 67 Artist 2000 series and 23 Artist 3000 series control panels are used at the studio in Casablanca and the 16 regional studios. 2M uses 17 Riedel Connect IP interfaces to integrate the remote control panels of the regional studios. The Connect IP units allow for matrix-to-matrix connections and matrix-to-control panel connections as well as for the distribution of audio lines over IP. The interface converts one AES3 stream into compressed IP data and vice versa, thus integrating the whole installation. |

The Zeus III is the next generation of compact intercom system units, offering more options for intercom configurations; with 32 channels of I/O plus an additional two configurable party-line interface channels. The Telex RadioCom BTR-80N Narrow Band wireless intercom system offers the most comprehensive, user friendly and versatile set of features available in wireless intercom systems anywhere in the world. These include remote belt pack battery status indicators, excellent audio quality, selectable tramsmitter power, AC or DC power and remote mic kill. Requiring only 25 kHz of modulated bandwidth, the BTR-80N Narrow Band system will allow more users per channel in a cramped UHF spectrum.

State Theatre of Mecklenburg in Schwerin is one of the finest theatres in Germany. Since 1836, it has provided a stage for drama, ballet, opera, orchestral performances and even puppet shows. After closing in May 2009 to undergo an extensive renovation, the theatre reopened its doors at the beginning of November.
The first performances in the newly renovated theatre, the premiere of Yasmina Reza’s play Der Gott des Gemetzels and a concert by the Mecklenburg State Orchestra, on the 7th and 8th November respectively, were also the first under the guidance of the new stage management system. Designed and installed by the Hamburg-based system integrator Amptown System Company (ASC), the new system from TELEX/RTS satisfies the complex and diverse requirements of the Schwerin theatre.
