InVision Studio Mount Offers Substantially More Isolation Than Elastic Suspensions

Posted: 31/03/2010
Rycote, the UK-based manufacturer of state-of-the-art microphone windshields and suspensions, is giving European recording press and pro-audio professionals their first chance to see the InVision USM, the affordable universal mic suspension for large-diaphragm recording microphones, since the American launch of the product in January. The USM is on display at Rycote’s stand at this year’s Pro Light & Sound exhibition, part of the annual Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.

The InVision Universal Studio Mount (or USM) has been designed to provide a 21st-century alternative to elasticated suspensions, the basic form of which has remained essentially unchanged for several decades. According to Rycote, the USM offers substantially more isolation from unwanted vibrations than that afforded by traditional elasticated 'cat's cradle' mic suspensions.

Making Life Easy For Voice Recording At BBC Northern Ireland

Posted: 16/03/2010
Making Life Easy For Voice Recording At BBC Northern Ireland Glensound Electronics have launched two new devices that help the non technical user achieve a perfect voice recording. The Atomic Voiceover 08 and 08+, are essentially high quality microphone pre-amps for dynamic, condenser or ribbon mics. The Voiceover 08+ was developed for voice recording into video editing systems at BBC Northern Ireland.

The unique feature of the units is in Glensound’s development of an Automatic Gain Adjust (AGA) system. This is a very sophisticated gain adjust that takes a snapshot of the audio levels over a 7 second sample period. The user simply presses the ‘Take Level / Mic Gain’ button and reads a sample passage for level. The AGA system is able to set the input gain level over this period whilst allowing a suitable headroom for any louder passages. This has the benefit over traditional AGC systems that the level is constant and does not increase background noise during quiet passages for example.

MINISTER PRESSES MUTE BUTTON ON HIGH-VALUE LIVE EVENTS

Posted: 28/07/2010
saveoursound Minister for the Digital Economy Ed Vaizey today indicated that the Government’s compensation package to those being evicted from the 800MHz spectrum will only encompass 6% of the frequencies being cleared. This puts the large-scale live events, from the West-End to major TV entertainment shows, on notice because it threatens the small businesses that supply them.
