Fujinon HD lenses capture the 3D action in Golden Globe winning feature film AVATAR

Posted: 25/02/2010
Fujinon high definition lenses, as offered by exclusive UK/Ireland distributor Pyser-SGI Limited, played a major role in the production of the newly released Golden Globe winning 3D epic feature film AVATAR.

The Fujinon lenses were specially chosen by director James Cameron – himself a recipient of the Golden Globe Best Director award for the film in Los Angeles, January – in conjunction with Vince Pace, co-inventor of the Fusion 3D camera system used on the film and founder of Pace Technologies.

The lenses used on the ground-breaking AVATAR production included the Fujinon ENG style HA16x6.3BE lens, and a special model HA5x7B-W50 developed by Fujinon to meet the exacting stereographic standards of this revolutionary Pace/Cameron production.

Hollywood Black Magic Filter Big Part of Reynolds; Bag of Tricks for Better Off Ted

Posted: 10/11/2009
When cinematographer Brian Reynolds began prep for the Fox/ABC half-hour comedy series Better Off Ted, his challenge was to trim the budget and keep the quality look as well as the 11-hour work day. “One of my first choices was to add Schneider’s Hollywood Black Magic filters to our lenses,” says Reynolds.

“They are nothing short of amazing,” he says, enthusiastically. “They combine the smaller lenslets of HD Classic Soft and added Black Frost. What this does to the skin is amazing. When you are shooting HD, you are suddenly looking at an unfiltered image. Make-up freaks out. Same with set designers and actors. Adding the Hollywood Black Magic does away with that. It makes the image seem more like film.
