Camera Corps to launch Mini Joystick Control at NAB

Posted: 25/02/2010
Shepperton-based Camera Corps, a global leader in robotic camera control systems, has chosen the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas for the worldwide launch of its new ultra-compact Mini Joystick Control. Mini Joystick Control is compatible with all Camera Corps and Egripment pan and tilt heads, including the award-winning Camera Corps Q-Ball.

"Mini Joystick Control was developed for applications such as commentator-camera control or for outside-broadcast vehicles where desk space is often very restricted," comments Camera Corps' founder and Managing Director Laurie Frost. "It is extremely easy to use and ideal for fast-response on-air operation. The joystick and control buttons have the same tactile responsiveness as those on our full-size controller, including fully adjustable pan, tilt and zoom speeds and reverses. Zoom is controlled by rotary twist of the joystick. Up to five separate heads can be operated from a single panel. Reverse settings and control speeds for each of the five channels can be stored in non-volatile internal memory."

Posted: 18/12/2009
Camera Corps Q-Ball robotic camera heads are keeping watchful eyes on the latest series of 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here' from Springbrook National Park on Australia's tropical Gold Coast. A total of six Q-Balls were chosen by international broadcast services company Gearhouse Broadcast as part of an 80-camera flyaway production system for the programme's ninth series. Produced by ITV Studios, the programmes are being transmitted in Britain by Granada Television (weekdays) and LWT (weekends) and on TV3 in Ireland. Over 40 hours of live programming are being sourced from 24/7 content captured over several weeks of production.

Enhanced Vault Track at Artistic Gymnastics World Championships

Posted: 19/11/2009

SIS LIVE chooses Camera Corps' enhanced Vault Track at Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2009

SIS LIVE, Europe’s largest OB facility and satellite uplink supplier, chose Camera Corps' Vault Track motorised camera support system to capture the vaulting events at this year's Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in London. Held at the 02 arena, October 13-18, the event attracted contestants from 73 countries.

"Camera Corps introduced the latest version of its Vault Track which allows the camera to travel alongside the gymnasts during their approach and to capture the actual vault in close-up," comments Camera Corps' Design Engineer Mitchel Randall. "The new version combines higher control resolution than its predecessor together with ultra-quiet operation. The redesigned Vault Track also incorporates an underslung camera support and control mechanism so that only the camera itself is visible above the track. We installed a 30 metre length of track on an 800 mm high support parallel to the 25 metre approach and 5 metre vaulting section. A new drive mechanism in the camera head provides 90 degrees of vertical adjustment in camera angle at horizontal tracking speeds of up to 10 metres per second with full control of acceleration and deceleration. The camera deployed at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships was a 1080i Hitachi DK-H32 with a Fuji 4 x 7.5 HD zoom lens."

The play’s the thing for The Camera Store and Vinten

Posted: 10/11/2009
In response to a tough challenge, Quattro pedestals from Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, have been modified for track use by The Camera Store. The new skated pedestal hybrid – now given the nickname Skquat – was developed to get cameras into the audience for the National Theatre’s NT Live project, which sends live coverage of plays from London to cinemas around the world.

Director Robin Lough and senior cameraman Paul Freeman recognised that the cameras needed to be in the audience to get the right coverage. The alternative, using cameras at the back of the auditorium with long lenses, leads to uninvolving images because of the foreshortening effect of the zoom. Getting closer to the action gave more intimacy.

Q-Ball robotic heads break record for longest-ever HD OB

Posted: 27/10/2009
Camera Corps' Q-Ball robotic HD cameras have successfully completed 100 days of continuous service as a key element of OB coverage from the 4th plinth in London's Trafalgar Square. The cameras were chosen by 021 Television, part of Gravity Media Group, to provide video coverage of Antony Gormley's 'One & Other' project. A total of 2,400 people participated in the event, some promoting their favourite cause or charity while others simply admired the view. The Q-Ball cameras were used from July 6 to October 14, accumulating content for the production of 60 minute reports transmitted on Sky Arts 1 HD each Friday evening. Live HD video from the cameras was also downconverted and streamed for the entire duration of the round-the-clock event via the Sky Arts website www.oneandother.com.
