DSLR camera and Video 18 SB

British cameraman Mark Moreve shot the entire 90-minute feature film ‘Love Loss’ with the compact Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera and the fluid head Video 18 SB from Sachtler, a brand of the Vitec Group.
“Even when using a small camera, reliable and robust equipment is essential,” Mark Moreve states. “I knew straight away that I needed good camera support equipment for this shoot. The camera is very lightweight and I often have to use longer lenses such as a 400mm, so I needed a stable Sachtler tripod to prevent any jittering during the shoot. Even if you use a lighter lens and a camera not as heavy, you have to make sure that the camera can be panned and tilted without a problem in order to achieve smooth panning shots,” says Mark Moreve who has been working as a freelance cameraman for 14 years with many broadcast and corporate credits to his name.

The system was deployed to coincide with the start of the UEFA Champions League group stages and to fulfil an ITV Sport contract to supply the Al Jazeera Sport channel with football coverage from all over Europe.  The facility also provides footage from European, domestic and international football competitions.

Vast Increases SAN Storage

Harris Corporation has introduced a 33-percent increase in storage capacity to its range of NEXIO® SAN (storage area network) storage arrays at the same price of its previously highest-capacity storage solution. This increase raises the total usable storage capacity to 96 TB, while maintaining full redundancy at the connectivity layer. 
 
The improvement is achieved using new 600 GB drives — allowing customers to store up to 14,000 hours of MPEG-2 12 Mb/s or 3,600 hours of Sony® XDCAM® HD422 content in a single SAN. Harris is the first broadcast supplier to offer 600 GB drives in its storage arrays at the same price as its previous-generation 450 GB drives — significantly lowering the cost per terabyte for customers.

Solid Solution from Hawk-Woods

Sony PMW-EX1 & EX3 operators can now record up to 5hrs of footage directly to a Solid State Drive.
Available ineither 64 or 128GB memory capacities, the new Hawk-Woods ‘Extreme’ SSD’sconnect to the camera via the express card slot. As well as the additional recording capacity provided compared to memory cards, these Drives offer e-Sata data transfer. This means that 300 minutes of footage can be downloaded in just 14 minutes.
 
By means of a quick-release system, both SSD’s will mount directly to anyone of the Hawk-Woods range of PMW-EX camera battery adaptors (V-Lok, BPU or MDV). Power can then transferred to the Drives from the mounted batteries. Alternatively the SSD’s can be powered from a single stand-alone Sony BPU battery.
