Hollywood Black Magic Filter Big Part of Reynolds; Bag of Tricks for Better Off Ted |

When cinematographer Brian Reynolds began prep for the Fox/ABC half-hour comedy series Better Off Ted, his challenge was to trim the budget and keep the quality look as well as the 11-hour work day. “One of my first choices was to add Schneider’s Hollywood Black Magic filters to our lenses,” says Reynolds.
“They are nothing short of amazing,” he says, enthusiastically. “They combine the smaller lenslets of HD Classic Soft and added Black Frost. What this does to the skin is amazing. When you are shooting HD, you are suddenly looking at an unfiltered image. Make-up freaks out. Same with set designers and actors. Adding the Hollywood Black Magic does away with that. It makes the image seem more like film.

Signiant was selected to help deliver on demand video to NBC during the network’s online coverage of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, February 12-28. The announcement was made today by Perkins Miller, SVP, Digital Media, NBC Sports and Olympics and Dennis Albano, CEO, Signiant. Signiant partnered with NBC to deliver coverage of the 2010 Winter Games to Microsoft Corp's facilities for viewing online in its Microsoft Silverlight player. As in the past, the Winter Games were available online for on demand video viewing at nbcolympics.com. There were 14 different workflows behind the scenes that Signiant’s software managed to ensure that the viewer experience was seamless as the games were streamed from Akamai’s Content Distribution Network. Compact SDI to 1394 Video Field Converter Launched |

EDIROL have announced the VC-50HD - an innovative portable bidirectional SDI to 1394 video field converter.
The VC-50HD provides bi-directional conversion between SD/HD-SDI to/from DV, HDV as well as 35Mbps and 50Mbps MPEG-2 transport stream (TS). The unit also supports lower bit rates including 8Mbps as well as 2, 9 and 12Mbps when using with SD sources ideal for DVD, web or fixed-point observation applications.
The VC-50HD can be used standalone between video decks and PC/Macs or mounted on the back of the EDIROL F-1 Video Field Recorder for file-based capture from SDI cameras.
The VC-50HD offers flexible monitoring of the signal in the field using the HDMI output connected to an affordable display. Resolution types, MPEG-2 bit-rates, direction and SDI audio channel selection can be controlled with remote software via USB or dipswitches conveniently located on side of the unit.

Sprout Design has produced the complete identity for Five’s new primetime game show, Heads or Tails. Hosted by Justin Lee Collins, the show resolves, not surprisingly, around the flip of a coin.
The first show to be hosted by Collins since his move to Five, Heads Or Tails gives members of the public the chance to become a millionaire on the toss of a coin.
Commissioned by Eyeworks, the sequences were designed and built by Matt Gee of Sprout, using Lightwave 3D. Matt also previously built the title sequences for Deal or No Deal, the National Lottery’s 1 v 100 and Guesstimation.
