OConnor Introduces Cine Follow Focus CFF-1 |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
Pioneering fluid head and tripod innovator OConnor, a Vitec Group brand, introduces the first product in their new line of professional camera accessories: the Cine Follow Focus CFF-1. This rock-solid tool features the hallmark design and precision engineering that has made the OConnor brand renowned throughout the industry for 60 years.
Constructed of lightweight, durable black anodized 7075-grade aluminum, the CFF-1 sports a multifunctional, modular design that eliminates the hassle of juggling separate bridge plates. A single, easy to use snap-on bridge clamps effortlessly onto either 15mm or 19mm studio rod systems. (An optional LWS bridge is also available.) The OConnor integrated approach lets the operator straddle the line between both standards with ease and efficiency. With the lowest clearance available in a double-sided studio unit, OConnor’s follow focus is ideal for large diameter lenses such as the Angenieux 24-290, Red 18-85, Fujinon 18-85, and Fujinon 75-400—and protects the user’s equipment investment by ensuring compatibility with optical systems now and into the future. The CFF-1 integrates seamlessly with existing popular accessories such as whips, gears, and cranks, while creating a new standard in compatibility. Click to view Full text |

ATV Jordan chooses BTS Enterprise broadcast scheduling and sales management system |
Posted: 26/10/2009 |
|
ATV Jordan, has joined the rapidly increasing number of broadcasters using the Broadcast Traffic Systems (BTS) Enterprise scheduling and sales management system. Commencing operation this month at the network's Amman headquarters, BTS Enterprise will be used to manage the playout of programmes as well as ensuring precise placement and transmission of advertisements and programme-related interstitials. BTS Enterprise was installed by BTS using its Internet-based installation process. Replacing an earlier scheduling device from a third-party source, Enterprise is both easier to operate and provides a wider range of features including tight integration with the technical infrastructure at ATV Jordan. |

DSLR camera and Video 18 SB |
Posted: 19/03/2010 |
|
British cameraman Mark Moreve shot the entire 90-minute feature film ‘Love Loss’ with the compact Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera and the fluid head Video 18 SB from Sachtler, a brand of the Vitec Group.
“Even when using a small camera, reliable and robust equipment is essential,” Mark Moreve states. “I knew straight away that I needed good camera support equipment for this shoot. The camera is very lightweight and I often have to use longer lenses such as a 400mm, so I needed a stable Sachtler tripod to prevent any jittering during the shoot. Even if you use a lighter lens and a camera not as heavy, you have to make sure that the camera can be panned and tilted without a problem in order to achieve smooth panning shots,” says Mark Moreve who has been working as a freelance cameraman for 14 years with many broadcast and corporate credits to his name. Vinten celebrates at NAB2010 |
Posted: 25/02/2010 |
|
Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, is celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2010, an unprecedented achievement in the film and television industry. As part of the celebrations it will be rolling out new technology alongside its proven favourite products at NAB2010
Vinten is renowned for its Perfect Balance, the unrivalled ability to support a camera so that it appears weightless to the user. This, combined with fluid drag, ensures that the only moves the camera makes are those that the operator wants, with the camera remaining perfectly still – in any position – at the end of the move. Today Vinten provides Perfect Balance for virtually any camera, with the award winning Vision AS range (launched at NAB last year) matching payloads from 2k to 14.5kg, the Vector range of pan and tilt heads, and the Quattro range of pedestals which together provide top end support for large camera/lens/prompter combinations
As well as showing the breadth of the Vinten range of heads, tripods and pedestals, NAB2010 will also see the demonstration of new technology to meet emerging user requirements, such as supporting cameras with compact box lenses or HD EFP barrel lenses.
Also on display will be heads incorporating precision positional encoders, either to stream data to virtual studio graphics systems or to work in association with image stabilising lenses, eliminating lag in pans and tilts.
Vinten will be demonstrating some of its products in a studio environment and a broad selection of the range will be available for the visitors to get hands on experience
on booth C 6025 in the Central Hall at NAB2010. |

|
Broadcast Traffic Systems (BTS) will demonstrate its range of open-platform broadcast traffic management software on stand ZR-23 (British pavilion) at CABSAT MENA 2010, Dubai, March 2-4. "A centrepiece of our exhibit will be the Express downloadable broadcast traffic management system, making its first CABSAT appearance," comments Craig Buckland, Technical Director of BTS. "Express is an entry-level application offering broadcasters an efficient, affordable and scalable means of media-traffic control and supervision. It is based on three modules which together provide programme planning, traffic scheduling, transmission scheduling, as-run scheduling and media management. Customers can select the modules needed to support their current level of business." Click to view Full text |

Vinten supports the X Factor |
Posted: 23/12/2009 |
|
Capturing all the performances on ITV’s The X Factor – shot in London’s Fountain Studios - called for fast and fluid movement from the cameras. One of the ways to achieve that freedom was with the use of Vinten Quattro-S pedestals with Vision 250 heads, supplied by The Camera Store.
The Quattro-S pedestal retains all the advantages of the Vinten Quattro – perfect balance over the whole of its one metre height adjustment, with smooth and silent on-shot moves – but with a smaller footprint. Under the pressure of a fast-moving live show like The X Factor this means that more cameras could get close to the action in the confined area at the front of the stage.
“The whole show was all about creating high excitement, which means lots of unusual camera angles and plenty of movement,” said Simon Tyres, camera supervisor on the production. “The Vinten Quattro S allowed me to move wherever the director calls, and never restricts my movements. It is the perfect pedestal for live light entertainment.”
The X Factor is produced by Syco Productions and Talkback Thames. |

TV Azteca Adds Shotoku Camera Support |
Posted: 25/11/2009 |
|
Shotoku Broadcast Systems has announced a new installation at the principal facilities of TV Azteca in Mxico City. The prolific television network annually generates more than 10,000 hours of unique content for viewers throughout the Spanish speaking world.
After evaluating a range of competing products, TV Azteca (www.tvazteca.com.mx) selected the Shotoku TP-64 VR Pedestal for studio production, and a companion tripod for portable field use, both fitted with virtual studio-enabled TU-03AVR pan/tilt heads. The Shotoku systems' precision encoders will provide TV Azteca's graphics generation computers, using Vizrt software, with fast and accurate camera positioning data.
"Compatibility with our virtual studio technology was the main factor," said Romn Gmez, director of engineering at TV Azteca. "And because we are very active in studio production, Shotoku's reputation for reliability, cost-effective maintenance and user-friendly configuration made the decision easy," Gmez concluded.
"We are delighted to add TV Azteca to the growing list of Shotoku users within the creative broadcast production community," said Naoki Ebimoto, president of Shotoku US. "Our pan/tilt heads and whisper quiet pedestals are optimized for virtual reality; their highly accurate 2D/3D positioning sensors enhance the perceived reality of computer generated studio environments."

The play’s the thing for The Camera Store and Vinten |
Posted: 10/11/2009 |
|
In response to a tough challenge, Quattro pedestals from Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, have been modified for track use by The Camera Store. The new skated pedestal hybrid – now given the nickname Skquat – was developed to get cameras into the audience for the National Theatre’s NT Live project, which sends live coverage of plays from London to cinemas around the world.
Director Robin Lough and senior cameraman Paul Freeman recognised that the cameras needed to be in the audience to get the right coverage. The alternative, using cameras at the back of the auditorium with long lenses, leads to uninvolving images because of the foreshortening effect of the zoom. Getting closer to the action gave more intimacy. Click to view Full text |
