FOR-A Reveals MBP-100MP Multi Format Player

FOR-A, a leading manufacturer of video and audio systems for the broadcast and professional video industries, will introduce the MBP-100MP Multi Format Player at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nev., April 12-15 (Booth C5219). It offers HD/SD-SDI baseband output of major file formats used in video production, including MXF files like XDCAM HD and P2HD.

ERTT ADOPTS FOR-A VIRTUAL STUDIO

FOR-A UK has supplied its digiStorm virtual studio technology and multiviewers to Thomson for installation at the Tunisian national broadcaster, ERTT in Tunis. As a part of a turnkey project by Thomson Grass Valley France SA, the virtual studio has been integrated with a Thomson vision mixer and Shotoku camera position sensors.
 
This digiStorm virtual studio system was configured to meet ERTT’s requirements that included working with the studio’s four cameras, and their associated motion sensors, using a dual-channel virtual set processor and two workstations to provide both programme and preview video of the virtual set for any two of the four cameras at one time. The two workstations run Brainstorm Multimedia’s eStudio 3D Graphics software, making a full ‘eStudio': one creation-and-play workstation and one play-only station. Other major system elements supplied by FOR-A that complete the system comprise a VRP-70HS virtual studio processor complete with chroma keyer, a DSC-100 data router and a tally interface.

CBS Sports Uses FOR-A FRC-7000 FRAME RATE CONVERTERS

Through the cooperation of CBS Sports and London-based CTV Outside Broadcasts, the Oct. 25 off-shore matchup between the National Football League’s New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was broadcast from London’s Wembley Stadium. A key piece of equipment, the FOR-A FRC-7000 HD frame rate converter, was supplied by London-based rental company Galaxy Light & Power LLC.
 
From football to ice hockey, the challenge in broadcasting sports is that there are a lot of objects moving quickly in different directions at the same time. “The FOR-A FRC-7000 handles fast moving objects far better than other converters I have used,” said Andy Grant, Chief Executive and Senior Engineer at Galaxy Light & Power. “You have more control over it in terms of optimizing settings for each kind of material. We found settings that will give a virtually transparent conversion for American football.”
 
Galaxy Light & Power worked independently with the NFL to provide an additional converter for instant replay feeds, and the outside broadcast facilities provider, CTV, wanted two additional converters to provide local news feeds within the United States and backup feeds. There were a total of five frame rate converters on site, all of them Galaxy’s FOR-A FRC-7000s.
 
According to Grant, the technical team at CBS was very pleased with the high quality of the conversion. “FOR-A converters are their first choice for this kind of work,” he said. “This is the second year we’ve done it. CBS was impressed with the work we did last year, hence we’ve been asked to do it this year. I like working with the FOR-A FRC-7000 because it is reliable and produces a consistently high quality conversion.”

At the 2010 NAB Show, never.no will showcase enhancements to its innovative technology applications that allow existing and aspiring broadcasters of all types to engage viewers and consumers in the media experience, both on the Internet and on traditional on-air television.

Interactivity Suite
The never.no Interactivity Suite (IS) is an array of software applications that together empower true participation television by enabling viewers both to influence a broadcast in real time and to interact with one another and the world. In addition, the IS enables broadcasters to effortlessly multipublish user-generated content (UGC) and multisourced aggregated content. The IS gives owners and advertisers a means to track consumers from medium to medium, communicating individually with them and tailoring and optimizing each individual's content and sponsor environment.

At the 2010 NAB Show, never.no will highlight Interactivity Desk (ID), the software tool for on-air and off-air editorial control of interactive and multisourced content. ID reads various forms of internal and viewer contribution data, including text, images, audio, and video, and enables the editor to schedule, moderate, edit, and sort the data before submission to broadcast systems, blogs, Internet pages, or STB or IPTV middleware. ID can feed data to various systems in parallel for true multicast participation TV and Internet integration. ID contains a built-in scheduler, which automatically schedules the running of content or interactive elements such as quizzes, polls, votes, and games without the need for studio intervention.

ID also provides basic and advanced broadcast control so that editors and moderators can automatically or manually trigger CG sequences, tickers, scrolls, bugs, or segments during direct or near-direct broadcasting. never.no offers turnkey integration with Vizrt®, Harris® RTX™, Adobe® Flash®, Microsoft® Silverlight™, and blog platforms. An open XML standard that can be adapted to other third-party systems is also available.

never.no will further showcase enhancements to the IS's Auto Dialogue System (ADS) to enable interaction with Twitter and other social networking applications so that on-air journalists or hosts instantaneously can share their thoughts and incorporate audience buzz about musical, sporting, or other live events.

Also part of the IS is the Dynamic Content Scheduler (DCS), a graphical user interface for configuring, deploying, and scheduling interactive automated TV graphics. Upgrades include Harris IconMaster™ support, which allows control of an IconMaster over a serial connection relying on the M2100 protocol. DCS now includes expanded flexibility when working with Vizrt 3.0, Harris RTX, Adobe Flash, and Microsoft Silverlight.
