3D Stereo Rigs rewrite History |

Altogether two Freestyle Rigs and four Standard Rigs from P+S TECHNIK have been applied during the very first football 3D-HD-Live-Production in Germany
After successful trials of the necessary equipment on 23rd February during the UEFA Champions League game VFB Stuttgart – FC Barcelona Munich has been the showcase location of the first football 3D-HD-Live-Production in Germany that has taken place on Sunday 14th of March 2010.
Not less than 120 selected guests were shown the top game between Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV (HSV) live and in 3D-HD in Munich on behalf of Sky Germany. Altogether six 3D Stereo Rigs from P+S TECHNIK have been applied in Leverkusen: Four Heavy Duty Standard Rigs and two Freestyle Rigs mounted on Steadicams. Satisfied faces could be seen after the final whistle when the audience took off its 3D glasses. Franz Beckenbauer is reported to have said: „The pictures I have seen here today are fantastic. In my age I already have participated in many TV developments and I am sure that with 3D HD we are at the dawn of a new era in TV technology.”

Robotic Camera Control at regional BBC |

BBC Cambridge, a regional studio of the world-renowned broadcaster, has recently taken delivery of a Shotoku Broadcast 3-channel robotically controlled camera system. James Eddershaw, sales director for the camera support manufacturer made the announcement from Shotoku’s European headquarters located in Staines, UK.
System Integrators, Dega Broadcast Systems, were responsible for the technical design, installation and commissioning of the TV facilities. Shotoku worked closely with Dega on the specification and configuration of the camera robotics.
David Addey from Dega commented, “The equipment was easy to understand and install and was very efficiently commissioned on site by Shotoku, who also provided training for the operators.”
Shotoku systems can also be found at other BBC locations including London, Glasgow and Cardiff.
The system is comprised of two TG-18 and one TG-27 pan/tilt heads for exceptionally smooth and accurate performance at all speeds and shooting angles. Control is achieved by an external interface for production automation, and Shotoku’s TR-8T touch control panel. The configuration will support the daily production schedule of regional news and current affairs programs. |

Harris Corporation Continues to Win Saudi Television Contracts |

Harris Corporation has been awarded several additional contracts by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture and Information (MOCI) for products spanning its high-definition (HD) portfolio.
Recent wins include the provision of equipment for eight new HD studios, three new portable HD studios, two new digital satellite news gathering/outside broadcast (DSNG/OB) vans and three new HD OB vans. These contract wins follow successful Harris high-definition equipment installations at seven Saudi TV studio control rooms in the cities of Qassim, Riyadh, Dammam, Medinah and Makhah in 2007 and 2008.

The Swiss Army certifies MillenniumHD for new film scanning suite |

The Swiss Army has installed a Cintel MillenniumHD film scanner and an imageMill GRACE image enhancer at its Electronic Media Centre in Bern. After extensive testing and evaluation of many film scanning solutions, the Swiss Army chose the MillenniumHD ‘data-cine’ film scanner fitted with 16mm and 35mm film gates, SD and HD video outputs and optical and magnetic sound options.
Film transfer expert Kathrin Schneider explained, “We looked at a number of film scanners but only MillenniumHD gave us the right combination of speed, image quality and flexibility. The internal colour correction is extremely powerful and, coupled with the imageMill GRACE film grain management solution, we are able to produce excellent High Definition transfers of our 16mm and 35mm material at real time in a single pass. Having a future upgrade path to 2K and 4K resolutions, at speeds up to 15fps was also very important to us.”
Simon Carter, Cintel’s Sales Director, commented, “The Swiss Army’s tests were quite exhaustive but we’re pleased to say that MillenniumHD was more than up for the job. We’re very honoured indeed to add such a prestigious organisation as the Swiss Army to the growing list of Millennium users.” |

EDIUS Lends Unique Vision |

When Taiwanese filmmaker Leon Dai set out to write and direct his new award-winning feature “No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti” (“Cannot Live Without You”), he was looking for a unique way to tell the story of the special relationship between a father and his seven year-old daughter.
Now that vision is clear. Shot in high-definition black and white over two years and edited on a Grass Valley™ EDIUS® real-time nonlinear editing system, the film has won numerous film festival awards and helped Dai prove that high-quality feature production can be done cost-effectively with the right talent and the right tools.
The feature was shot using various standard-definition and HD video camcorders and edited by Dai on his home workstation running EDIUS 5 NLE software. Finished sequences were then output to a hard disk drive as TIFF and AAF files, and finally after audio editing and conforming at Central Pictures Corporation’s Dolby Film TV Studio in Taipei, Taiwan—printed to 35 mm film.
The film “Cannot Live Without You,” written and directed by Dai, has won many ‘best movie’ awards at international film festivals, such as the 2009 Taipei Film Festival, Skip City International D-Cinema Festival in Japan, and Durban International Film Festival in South Africa. Recently it won the prestigious 46th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards for best motion picture, best director, and best script. |

Mini Joystick Control is compatible with all Camera Corps and Egripment pan and tilt heads, including the award-winning Camera Corps Q-Ball. "Mini Joystick Control was developed for applications such as commentator-camera control or for outside-broadcast vehicles where desk space is often very restricted," comments Camera Corps' founder and Managing Director Laurie Frost.
