The DSLR HD Video Revolution |
Posted: 26/01/2010 |
|
This year’s BVE exhibition brings the visitor face-to-face with DSLRs technology for the first time, as well as a treasure trove of and new accessories. The show is also delighted to announce free education on getting top results from the leading DSLR cameras.
Two years ago it was assumed that DSLR cameras would eventually capture HD video. So when camera manufacturers launched the first generation with moving image capture, it was no big surprise. The target audience the marketing spoke of was the paparazzi. This seemed to make complete sense. One year on and this laissez-faire attitude to DSLR video has been stopped dead in its tracks. The DSLR has arrived in the production community with a bang and made an impact that it could never have dreamt of with prize-winning DOPs and cinematographers shooting beautiful films on DSLRs.

Mobile Phones Capture Road Conditions |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
When recent heavy snowstorms affected citizens in WDIV-TV's metropolitan Detroit viewing area, the Streambox® Live™ IP-based video contribution service and the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband network provided a novel newsgathering solution: snowplow-cams. The NBC affiliate supplemented its live news and weather coverage with video of road conditions streamed from smartphones mounted on the dashboards of county snowplow trucks. The video was rebroadcast by major news organizations including CNN Headline News, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel® to enhance their national weather coverage.
"Major weather events can have a dire impact on citizens' ability to move about safely, and news organizations have a responsibility to ensure that viewers are armed with the most current and accurate information possible. The streaming system worked well for us to bring in many live videos from all over metropolitan Detroit for WDIV-TV, and the snowplow operation is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak," said Jeff Liebman, news operations manager at WDIV-TV. "When paired with the reliability, robust 3G network speeds, and signal clarity afforded by the mobile broadband network, this application afforded us an extremely cost-effective and scalable method for giving viewers a firsthand look at road conditions as they happened." DSLR camera and Video 18 SB |
Posted: 19/03/2010 |
|
British cameraman Mark Moreve shot the entire 90-minute feature film ‘Love Loss’ with the compact Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera and the fluid head Video 18 SB from Sachtler, a brand of the Vitec Group.
“Even when using a small camera, reliable and robust equipment is essential,” Mark Moreve states. “I knew straight away that I needed good camera support equipment for this shoot. The camera is very lightweight and I often have to use longer lenses such as a 400mm, so I needed a stable Sachtler tripod to prevent any jittering during the shoot. Even if you use a lighter lens and a camera not as heavy, you have to make sure that the camera can be panned and tilted without a problem in order to achieve smooth panning shots,” says Mark Moreve who has been working as a freelance cameraman for 14 years with many broadcast and corporate credits to his name. PLAYBOX HITS RECORD SALES |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
PlayBox Technology, the #1 international ‘TV station in a box’ manufacturer, reports record sales in 2009. Further growth is planned for 2010, assisted by developments in both technology and the expansion of worldwide regional operations.
Provisional figures for 2009 show 28 percent consolidated volume growth over 2008, itself a record in a recession year following on from successive growth years. The 2009 results were boosted by the company’s development of regional markets as well as its continued technical product development. The new PlayBox product lines in the Digital Signage and AV markets also added to the numbers.
As a part of the planned growth for 2010, PlayBox will open two further regional offices during the year serving Southern Europe and the expanding South American market. PlayBox CEO, Vassil Lefterov, comments, “This recession has made our customers look even more closely at value for money, and we have been delivering it. We have had a fantastic year and are now building on our strengths to do more. A lot of our business is about developing ideas with customers and delivering what they want. The new regional offices allow us to do this on a wider scale. We are also looking for additional ways to accelerate our expansion.”

|
Pioneering fluid head and tripod innovator OConnor, a Vitec Group brand, introduces the first product in their new line of professional camera accessories: the Cine Follow Focus CFF-1. This rock-solid tool features the hallmark design and precision engineering that has made the OConnor brand renowned throughout the industry for 60 years.
Constructed of lightweight, durable black anodized 7075-grade aluminum, the CFF-1 sports a multifunctional, modular design that eliminates the hassle of juggling separate bridge plates. The OConnor integrated approach lets the operator straddle the line between both standards with ease and efficiency. With the lowest clearance available in a double-sided studio unit, OConnor’s follow focus is ideal for large diameter lenses such as the Angenieux 24-290, Red 18-85, Fujinon 18-85, and Fujinon 75-400—and protects the user’s equipment investment by ensuring compatibility with optical systems now and into the future.
