Miranda launches master control and channel branding systems |
Posted: 18/03/2010 |
|
Miranda Technologies is launching two low cost, high performance master control switching and channel branding systems at NAB (North Hall, 2515), called Imagestore-Modular+ and Imagestore-Modular.
Imagestore-Modular+ offers the full breadth of channel branding capabilities, including clip/animation playout for advanced graphics effects. This HD/SD processor can provide up to 80 minutes of clip playout for partial or full frame branding and promo graphics. It uses a space and energy efficient, dual card design, with up to four channels housed in a single 3RU Densite frame.
The processor is designed for pre-rendered graphics, and can provide up to five layers of keying. Three layers can be fed by internally stored stills/ animations, one layer is for clips, and one layer is for external graphics devices with fill/key outputs. Graphics capabilities include automated character generation and EAS insertion, as well as clock and temperature insertion. Other features include AB video mixing with 16 channel audio mixing, and 8 channel voice-overs with audio clip playback.

The play’s the thing for The Camera Store and Vinten |
Posted: 10/11/2009 |
|
In response to a tough challenge, Quattro pedestals from Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, have been modified for track use by The Camera Store. The new skated pedestal hybrid – now given the nickname Skquat – was developed to get cameras into the audience for the National Theatre’s NT Live project, which sends live coverage of plays from London to cinemas around the world.
Director Robin Lough and senior cameraman Paul Freeman recognised that the cameras needed to be in the audience to get the right coverage. The alternative, using cameras at the back of the auditorium with long lenses, leads to uninvolving images because of the foreshortening effect of the zoom. Getting closer to the action gave more intimacy. Click to view Full text |

Unprecedented Level Of Clarity At The Payne County Courthouse |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
Designing sound systems for courtroom applications presents a host of challenges: acoustical, electrical and application-specific requirements make courtroom systems the most mission critical audio installations in the marketplace. After four subpar audio installations at the Payne County Courthouse in Oklahoma, Judge Worthington and the courthouse administration approached Aspen Custom Electronics with a special request to upgrade the courthouse audio system for good. Using an arsenal of AKG equipment which includes the WMS450 Wireless body pack, a DMM 4/2/2 Audio Mixer and two GN30 Goosenecks, Aspen Custom Electronics was able to do what four companies before it could not: install a clear and powerful audio system that exceeds everyone’s expectations. According to Matt Hall, project manager for Aspen Custom Electronics, the courthouse’s audio system required so many revisions because of its many acoustical anomalies. Built in 1917, it was designed to provide optimal voice projection without the use of a PA system, so even the smallest sounds reverberate throughout the room, and a good portion of the front is covered in marble. What’s more, the witness is able to turn up to 180 degrees while on the stand, looking from judge to jury, and many of the times their voice is very low and withdrawn. Click to view Full text |

Robotic Camera Control at regional BBC |
Posted: 16/03/2010 |
|
BBC Cambridge, a regional studio of the world-renowned broadcaster, has recently taken delivery of a Shotoku Broadcast 3-channel robotically controlled camera system. James Eddershaw, sales director for the camera support manufacturer made the announcement from Shotoku’s European headquarters located in Staines, UK.
System Integrators, Dega Broadcast Systems, were responsible for the technical design, installation and commissioning of the TV facilities. Shotoku worked closely with Dega on the specification and configuration of the camera robotics.
David Addey from Dega commented, “The equipment was easy to understand and install and was very efficiently commissioned on site by Shotoku, who also provided training for the operators.”
Shotoku systems can also be found at other BBC locations including London, Glasgow and Cardiff.
The system is comprised of two TG-18 and one TG-27 pan/tilt heads for exceptionally smooth and accurate performance at all speeds and shooting angles. Control is achieved by an external interface for production automation, and Shotoku’s TR-8T touch control panel. The configuration will support the daily production schedule of regional news and current affairs programs. |

Camera Corps to launch Mini Joystick Control at NAB |
Posted: 25/02/2010 |
|
Shepperton-based Camera Corps, a global leader in robotic camera control systems, has chosen the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas for the worldwide launch of its new ultra-compact Mini Joystick Control. Mini Joystick Control is compatible with all Camera Corps and Egripment pan and tilt heads, including the award-winning Camera Corps Q-Ball. "Mini Joystick Control was developed for applications such as commentator-camera control or for outside-broadcast vehicles where desk space is often very restricted," comments Camera Corps' founder and Managing Director Laurie Frost. "It is extremely easy to use and ideal for fast-response on-air operation. The joystick and control buttons have the same tactile responsiveness as those on our full-size controller, including fully adjustable pan, tilt and zoom speeds and reverses. Zoom is controlled by rotary twist of the joystick. Up to five separate heads can be operated from a single panel. Reverse settings and control speeds for each of the five channels can be stored in non-volatile internal memory." Click to view Full text |

Altered Images, one of Britain's leading resellers of technology for the television production and corporate communications sectors, has chosen Custom Consoles' to design and supply a large video and audio control room at Madeley Academy in Telford, Shropshire. Based on the M-Desk Technical series, the desk consists of a 6 metre wide inline structure with an integral 3 metre wide side-facing work position at each end. TV Azteca Adds Shotoku Camera Support |
Posted: 25/11/2009 |
|
Shotoku Broadcast Systems has announced a new installation at the principal facilities of TV Azteca in Mxico City. The prolific television network annually generates more than 10,000 hours of unique content for viewers throughout the Spanish speaking world.
After evaluating a range of competing products, TV Azteca (www.tvazteca.com.mx) selected the Shotoku TP-64 VR Pedestal for studio production, and a companion tripod for portable field use, both fitted with virtual studio-enabled TU-03AVR pan/tilt heads. The Shotoku systems' precision encoders will provide TV Azteca's graphics generation computers, using Vizrt software, with fast and accurate camera positioning data.
"Compatibility with our virtual studio technology was the main factor," said Romn Gmez, director of engineering at TV Azteca. "And because we are very active in studio production, Shotoku's reputation for reliability, cost-effective maintenance and user-friendly configuration made the decision easy," Gmez concluded.
"We are delighted to add TV Azteca to the growing list of Shotoku users within the creative broadcast production community," said Naoki Ebimoto, president of Shotoku US. "Our pan/tilt heads and whisper quiet pedestals are optimized for virtual reality; their highly accurate 2D/3D positioning sensors enhance the perceived reality of computer generated studio environments."
