Robbers and Romance The production company Creativurge from Vienna comprising cinematographer Sebastian Leitner and director Louis-Jeremy Spiess has completed two new film projects, in which the FSB 6 T / 2 D tripod system of Sachtler, a Vitec Group brand, was used. For the making of "Echt Jetzt" (short film, 28 min.) and "Fladeranten Schau" (twelve-part short film series), the project team decided in favor of the Sachtler FSB 6 T fluid head because of its precise and smooth camera operation.

Hawk-Woods at IBC2010

Hawk-Woods will be displaying their latest range of innovative solutions at IBC2010 in September. This year sees them displaying three exciting new ranges, as well as their existing well known products.

Canon Kit is a series of powering and mounting solutions for users of Canon EOS D5 & D7 cameras. Operators can now choose to run their camera from a number of battery types. This includes V-Lok and Mini DV batteries.

nanoFlash Gear is aimed at users of the popular Convergent Design nanoFlash hard drive. Mounting options, tally cables, dc cables and bnc cables are all available for this device from Hawk-Woods.

The Reel Power range of batteries, chargers and adaptors have been developed for high voltage, high speed cameras. Reel Power equipment is perfect for the new Arri Alexa camera.  

Hawk-Woods can be found in Hall 11 on stand G25 at this years event.  Clive and Gina Hawkins will be representing the company for the duration of the exhibition.

US Indie film, “And They’re Off” has been captured by Ulf Soderqvist
predominantly using Canon’s 5D and 7D cameras, enhanced by the use of Light Illusion designed
Gamma Curves aimed at maximising the capture capabilities of these ostensibly ‘stills’ cameras.

“And They're Off" is directed by Rob Schiller ("King of Queens," "Two and a Half Men"), and penned by
Alan Grossbard with Grossbard ("Zerophilia"), Pamela Fryman ("How I Met Your Mother") and Howard
Bolter as producers. The film portrays a failed horse trainer desperately trying to get back into the
winners circle.

Hawk-Woods Adapts to Canon D7

Hawk-Woods have just announced a series of battery power adaptors for the Canon EOS D5 and D7 cameras. As those in the industry will know, these stills cameras are now being used prominently for their HD recording capabilities.
Hawk-Woods’ DC-5D adaptors feature a cable mounted dummy LP-E6 type battery, which is linked to either a 2-pin D-Tap, or 4-Pin Hirose plug.
These adaptors allow the cameras to be powered from V-Lok (and other) types of battery when plugged into a suitable power output. This could be a rig mounted V-Lok plate, or stand alone V-Lok adaptor, like the Hawk-Woods VL-A1.
This is great news for users shooting HD video or time-lapse photography with either the D5 or D7, as the available run-time can be increased immensely. The advantages of using a single high capacity broadcast battery over dozens of standard Canon LP-E6 batteries are obvious.
The DC-5D1 (D-Tap version) and DC-5D2 (Hirose version) are available now from your preferred Hawk-Woods stockiest.

British cameraman Mark Moreve shot the entire 90-minute feature film ‘Love Loss’ with the compact Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera and the fluid head Video 18 SB from Sachtler, a brand of the Vitec Group.
“Even when using a small camera, reliable and robust equipment is essential,” Mark Moreve states. “I knew straight away that I needed good camera support equipment for this shoot. The camera is very lightweight and I often have to use longer lenses such as a 400mm, so I needed a stable Sachtler tripod to prevent any jittering during the shoot. Even if you use a lighter lens and a camera not as heavy, you have to make sure that the camera can be panned and tilted without a problem in order to achieve smooth panning shots,” says Mark Moreve who has been working as a freelance cameraman for 14 years with many broadcast and corporate credits to his name.
Reliable Equipment
The British feature film ‘Love Loss’, which took two weeks to be shot in the English county of Hertfordshire, was the first film Mark and the first feature film to be shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mk II: „I wanted reliable products around me at this time as enough risks were being taken with the new HD DSLR-camera. Sachtler is a reliable brand and so I knew their heads wouldn‘t let me down. The first thing I tell people when they want to shoot with a DSLR camera is: You will need reliable equipment and the most important thing is the fluid head. I always recommend a robust Sachtler head.”
The film ‘Love Loss’ is in post production at the moment and will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival.

This year’s BVE exhibition brings the visitor face-to-face with DSLRs technology for the first time, as well as a treasure trove of and new accessories. The show is also delighted to announce free education on getting top results from the leading DSLR cameras.
 
Two years ago it was assumed that DSLR cameras would eventually capture HD video. So when camera manufacturers launched the first generation with moving image capture, it was no big surprise. The target audience the marketing spoke of was the paparazzi. This seemed to make complete sense. One year on and this laissez-faire attitude to DSLR video has been stopped dead in its tracks. The DSLR has arrived in the production community with a bang and made an impact that it could never have dreamt of with prize-winning DOPs and cinematographers shooting beautiful films on DSLRs.
