ERTT ADOPTS FOR-A VIRTUAL STUDIO

FOR-A UK has supplied its digiStorm virtual studio technology and multiviewers to Thomson for installation at the Tunisian national broadcaster, ERTT in Tunis. As a part of a turnkey project by Thomson Grass Valley France SA, the virtual studio has been integrated with a Thomson vision mixer and Shotoku camera position sensors.
 
This digiStorm virtual studio system was configured to meet ERTT’s requirements that included working with the studio’s four cameras, and their associated motion sensors, using a dual-channel virtual set processor and two workstations to provide both programme and preview video of the virtual set for any two of the four cameras at one time. The two workstations run Brainstorm Multimedia’s eStudio 3D Graphics software, making a full ‘eStudio': one creation-and-play workstation and one play-only station. Other major system elements supplied by FOR-A that complete the system comprise a VRP-70HS virtual studio processor complete with chroma keyer, a DSC-100 data router and a tally interface.

Petrol Introduces Pillow Staybag (PPSB-15)

Petrol™, a Vitec Group brand, introduces the Petrol Pillow Staybag (#PPSB-15), two-in-one solution. This ingenious new duffel-style carrier is ideal for transporting a camera comfortably and safely to location, and it also provides a steady mounting solution for extreme shooting scenarios (such as on a moving car, a rock, or on a highly angular surface) where a tripod is not possible.
 
The Staybag’s ultra-wide opening provides quick and easy access to a roomy main compartment large enough to hold compact HDV camcorders to full-size HD cameras. Inside, the floor of the bag is equipped with a built-in pillow, filled with hundreds of small foam Steadi-balls. CBS Sports Uses FOR-A FRC-7000 FRAME RATE CONVERTERS

Through the cooperation of CBS Sports and London-based CTV Outside Broadcasts, the Oct. 25 off-shore matchup between the National Football League’s New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was broadcast from London’s Wembley Stadium. A key piece of equipment, the FOR-A FRC-7000 HD frame rate converter, was supplied by London-based rental company Galaxy Light & Power LLC.
 
From football to ice hockey, the challenge in broadcasting sports is that there are a lot of objects moving quickly in different directions at the same time. “The FOR-A FRC-7000 handles fast moving objects far better than other converters I have used,” said Andy Grant, Chief Executive and Senior Engineer at Galaxy Light & Power. “You have more control over it in terms of optimizing settings for each kind of material. We found settings that will give a virtually transparent conversion for American football.”
 
Galaxy Light & Power worked independently with the NFL to provide an additional converter for instant replay feeds, and the outside broadcast facilities provider, CTV, wanted two additional converters to provide local news feeds within the United States and backup feeds. There were a total of five frame rate converters on site, all of them Galaxy’s FOR-A FRC-7000s.
 
According to Grant, the technical team at CBS was very pleased with the high quality of the conversion. “FOR-A converters are their first choice for this kind of work,” he said. “This is the second year we’ve done it. CBS was impressed with the work we did last year, hence we’ve been asked to do it this year. I like working with the FOR-A FRC-7000 because it is reliable and produces a consistently high quality conversion.”
