Sound Devices 970 Takes a Ride with Renowned Audio Mixer for New Semi-Animated Childrens Series

Sound Devices 970 Takes a Ride with Renowned Audio Mixer for New Semi-Animated Childrens Series

When Sound Mixer Richard Lightstone was looking to upgrade his audio cart with a Dante-compatible digital recorder for Disney XDs semi-animated childrens program Kirby Buckets, he turned to Sound Devices new 970. The Sound Devices 970, the companys first-ever audio-only rack-mounted solution, boasts an impressive 64 channels of Dante and MADI.

As an industry veteran, Lightstone has long been aware of Sound Devices and its storied name in the industry. I certainly know the Sound Devices reputation with their earlier products, he says. I had originally looked at their Video Devices PIX line and was considering it, but once I heard about the 970, which was strictly devoted to audio, I jumped at the chance to get a hold of it. The great advantage of using the 970 with Dante is that I can remove a huge amount of cable from my sound cart. Also, the sheer capacity of the 970 in terms of its high track count really made it stand out from the other products I looked at for this project.

The iPhone Plays Its Part In Glensounds New Post ISDN Commentary and amp; Reporting Units

Glensound have supplied around 10,000 ISDN units to broadcasters around the world.  Although ISDN is still the most reliable and trusted option for audio links, it is in decline, as broadcasters look towards IP and HD Voice mobile options.  We are in a transitional period however, as the post ISDN options do not offer the ease of use and huge compatibility that the long established ISDN connections do.

Suburban Community Channels Serves Local Viewers with Tightrope Media Systems

Many Community TV broadcasters across the United States rely on Tightrope Media Systems to simplify multichannel scheduling and playout, but one Minneapolis-area broadcaster is leveraging the full Tightrope portfolio to establish meaningful community connections beyond master control.

Suburban Community Channels has been the Community TV and media resource connection for the northeast Minneapolis/St. Paul suburbs for more than 30 years, delivering 17 physical channels from its facility.  As the local cable franchise authority for Comcast, the PEG broadcaster delivers eight channels of programming across 12 municipalities, including discrete government channels for each community.  Suburban Community Channels populates its remaining channels with a variety of imported and locally produced content, the latter of which includes live broadcasts of high school sports.

Mastering Engineer Eric Boulanger Extolls the Benefits of SADiEs New Mastering Toolkit

The new mastering features that SADiE has incorporated into its popular SADiE 6 editing and production software have been hailed as a major improvement by internationally acclaimed mastering engineer Eric Boulanger not least because they are saving him an enormous amount of time.

Eric Boulanger is based at the world famous The Mastering Lab (TML), which was America's first independent mastering facility when it was opened in 1967 by Doug Sax. Originally in Hollywood but now based on Ojai, California, TML remains a revolutionary state-of-the-art company that uses unique concepts of signal flow and electronics pioneered by Dougs brother, Sherwood Sax. All of its custom electronics and console are all purpose designed and handcrafted, and this attention to detail has earned TML more Grammy nominations for engineering than any other mastering facility.
